My fish tanks water is quite cloudy, how can i stop it being so?

Ive come to a decision that i think that it is algae making it cloudy because yesterday morning i cleaned the algae off of the glass however tonight it is even more green and prominent than it was on wednesday night.

The cloudiness doesn’t seem to be effecting the fish however, it does make the tank look unpleasant though.

Please, any suggestions.
Yes, i have a fluval 200. Its an external filter.
My dad suggested getting some more plants so i think i will do this anyway. But are there any other suggestions or prognosises (i think i used that word right).
There isnt actually anything floating around, the water is just cloudy and milky.
Oh, so i should just do nothing if its cycling?

do you have a filtration system?

Go to your local pet store to get something for the algae. You may want to get a snail to put in your fish tank to clean the walls and a filter to clean the water, and every 2 weeks take out 1/3 of the water and replace it with clean water so you don’t have to take out the fish and scrub the tank so often.

oxygenating plants will make the water clearer, and also be better for your fish. Just ask at any place they sell fish, they will be able to tell you the best sorts.

It is algae in the water. I believe it is actually a bacteria though. Do water changes. THat helps clear it up. Also, don’t turn your light on as much. There are things you can also buy for this. HOpe I helped!!!

edit: When I say algae in the water I don’t mean you can see algae floating in the water. It just makes the water VERY cloudy and green tinted.

I have had up to 22 fish at a time, and my fish tank has been very cloudy at times. It is best if you have a filter, which on average is $30 dollars, and you can get at any pet store. if not, put your fish in SEPARATE bags (i put 2 of my fish together once, they got excited and were swimming around chasing each other and popped the bag) and clean it out by hand. I know its really GROSS but its worth not having to look at green stuff floating around all of the time.
    Hope this helps! :D
once u r on the website, go 2 fish and find filter and circulation

How old is the tank? Tanks less than a month old may become cloudy during the “Nitrogen Cycle. ” Research tank cycling if that is the case.

    If it is just algae:

Move the tank away from any direct sunlight source. Or cover/ close the source up. If your lights are on a timer, shorten the “on” length.

Do not over feed your fish, remove any uneaten food. The pollution caused by uneaten food can cause algae blooms, and an unsafe environment for fish.

Do not over stock your tank. If your filter can’t keep up with the demand, you wil have more problems than algae.

The algae is a living plant that could ultimately suffocate your fish by expelling too much co2 into the tank at night.

    ***EDIT***

It sound like your tank is cycling. If it’s new it will need to cycle, and that cloud is a bacteria bloom. If you changed/ replaced all of your filters media it may have created a mini-cycle. The tank has to generate beneficial bacteria to create balance with the chemistry of the tank. Ammonia levels will rise and fall until equalibrium is acheived. Most of the beneficial bacteria is cultured in your filter. If you remove it all, it has to regenerate again.

Pleco will be an excellent fish to clean your glass.

there are few possible reason for cloudy water. .

    1. yours substrate is not clean
    2. over feeding : un eaten food decays in the tank
    3. Over/high light with less plant nutrition Develops algae (control light and add plant supplement to control algae.
    4. Fish like gold fish, carps can dig out the substrate
    5. improper/no filtration: need to have a good filter.

in my 15 year of Aquaculture I never had cloudy water. I have planted tank. I would like to understand what is the problem in your case.

    Good Luck
